David L. Hitchcock

September 20, 1950 - October 13, 2005

 

HITCHCOCK, DAVID L., A U.S. Marine and founding partner of Hitchcock Evert LLP. died on October 13, 2005. He was 55. Mr. Hitchcock began his legal career in active duty service for the United States Marine Corps and he continued serving in the Marine Corps Reserve for many years. He retired as a Major. In 1980, he joined the Dallas law firm of Richards Medlock & Andrews, now a part of Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP, where he practiced as an intellectual property lawyer for twenty-five years. In January, 2005, Mr. Hitchcock co-founded the law firm of Hitchcock Evert LLP. Mr. Hitchcock, originally of Port Clinton, Ohio, attended the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree, in Chemical Engineering, and he graduated in 1976 from the University of Toledo Law School. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and an Adjunct Professor of Patent Law at Texas Wesleyan University since 1995. In addition to his distinguished career as a lawyer. Mr. Hitchcock was an avid history buff, equestrian, and Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lancaster Historical Society and he enjoyed scuba diving, farming, welding, black-smithing, and working his two teams of Suffolk Punch draft horses, Thunder and Lightning, and Franklin and Lightning. Mr. Hitchcock is survived by his wife Frances Hitchcock, his brother James Hitchcock, his nephews Chris and Nick Hitchcock, and his step-mother Ruth Hitchcock. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Honorable J. Gareth and Helen E. Hitchcock. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, with interment following at 3:00 PM at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
