This beautiful cross was added to
the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster thanks to funds
donated in Dave's memory. The plaque is inscribed "In loving
memory of David L. Hitchcock." The cross was dedicated on
Sunday, July 11, 2006.

First
Presbyterian Church, where Dave previously served as an elder, and
where Frances continues to serve. The church celebrated its
150th year of service on Sunday, July 23, 2006.

Miss
Me But Let Me Go
Author Unknown
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me
a little, but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me, but let me go.
For
this is a journey we all must take,
And each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the Master’s Plan,
A step on the road to home.
When
you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me, but let me go.

It's hard to believe that we
just celebrated another New Year without Dave. Fifteen months after
his unexpected passing, we still miss him,
and find that the sage advice of this poem (above) is difficult to follow.
Perhaps the journey of grief and healing will some day lead us to the
point where we can let him go, or perhaps we never really do let go of
those we love. Maybe the real healing lies in letting go of our own
grief while holding dear the memories.
