Built in 1896, the W. A. Strain House stands proudly on a hill atop the Strain Farm, which is believed to be the oldest working farm in Dallas County, and is one of a small number of farms continuously owned and operated for more than 100 years by a single family.

After years of research and documentation, the Strain Farm and House were recognized with listings in the  National Register of Historic Places.  Click on the "Architecture" button for a detailed description of the house as recorded in the National Register.  Click on the "National Register" button to for information from the Strain Farm and House listings.

In May 2007, the Strain family dedicated a conservation easement to the Connemara Conservancy to ensure the preservation of the land for future generations. Click on the "Conservancy" button to read more, or visit the Dallas Morning News website to read their feature article.

The Strain Farm is open for educational tours by appointment.  Contact Carol Strain-Burk at 972-227-1382 for information or to schedule a tour.
